Who are you?
Who are you???
'I am Huanyan...'
No, I don't want to know what's your name, I wanna know who you are.
'I am the son of my father and mother...'
No no no, I don't wanna know whose chidren you are, just anwser the the damn question.... who are you???
'I am a NUS student...'
Nope, I dun wanna know what are you doing now. Who are you, why are you different from the person you are sitting beside? Why?
'I am ....'
Who are you? To my dear readers, have you ever thought of this really profound question? Not in a philo sense, but who and what we really are is actually the result of our decisions and thoughts over the years. Think about it....you are a NUS student, not because people tell you that you must become a NUS student, but it's because you chose to become a NUS student. Most of us are not really successful today, all due to the decisions and choices we made. That's who we really are - the result of our thoughts, beliefs and decisions and choices.
The mind is the most powerful object that our Creator, whoever he is, gave us. With it, we are able to control our destiny... Unfortunately, a lot of us more often than not, took it for granted and failed to realise the full potential of the mind. One of the best thing that the mind can do to us is allow us to set goals and visions, in other words, it allows us to build dreams and hope. Without dreams and hope, man is as good as dead. The human mind is a very interesting entity. If you dun have goals/dreams, your performance level will not reach the full potential, cos there is nothing to fight for. Dreams provide us a goal to fight for in our life. With dreams, then will come motivation. Only then, people will be willing to pay the price for their dreams, and be disciplined enough to last through all obstacles in life for our final success- our dreams.
Today, to all my dear readers, to live without dreams will be one of the most saddening things in life. Dreams is what have propelled human being to move forward for the past millenium. Look at Christopher Columbus, Lans Armstrong, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, blah blah blah.... a lot more. Dreams is what makes us great. Like what it has done to a lot of great man through the ages.
In fact, did anyone (readers from Singapore) hear the NDP theme song for this year? The chorus goes like this:
Let's reach out for the skies
With wings we soar up high
Our dreams we'll all achieve
We'll make our destiny
Let's reach out for the skies
With wings we soar up high
Our dreams we'll all achieve
Let's soar and reach for the skies - Elaine Chan
I believe that we all can soar for the skies. Why? I wanna reach out for the skies. Why? I believe no matter what, we should have dreams. Dreams keep us alive. I dun like people without dreams. One group of such people is people who dun believe in themselves. Another most saddening thing in life is that you believe in anything but yourself. You can believe in a piece of stone, some spring water, or some statue (no offence here) but when people ask you to believe in yourself, you shun away. You will rather go into the graveyard and pray for that 4 digits and not work for your own life. Sad, really sad.
I believe in myself. I have strong desires to believe in myself. You may ask why? Let me explain slowly. I strongly believe that our Creator, whoever he is, show us his love by giving us our parents. They are the one who have shown unconditional love throughout the years for us. They tolled day and night for our well-being. Knowing that my mum worked three part times and my family's situation, I know I must make it, and I know that dreams will allow me to do. Think about it, which one of us have really appreciated the people around us for the past years? I failed to, which I realised after PSC. I have to believe in myself, I have no choice. If people have been in my situation, you would have thought so too. That's why I think that the NDP theme song this year is very meaningful, no matter what they say.
Who am I? You really wanna know? Get to know me then.
