A little preliminary thoughts

It has been an incredible conference so far. Learned a lot and received a lot. Some prelim thoughts: 1. We need to disciple our people to become disciples. As Christians, what we really mean is that we are disciples of Christ. 2. We need to constantly challenged ourselves to be discipled and push ourselves to become more effective disciple makers in Christ. 3. As disciples and disciple makers, we need to learn how to discern God's will for our own lives and the lives of the people whom we are taking care of. 4. We need to persevere and not give up loving the people even though it can be tough sometimes.

Reasonable Faith: Q

Reasonable Faith: Q & A with Dr. William Lane Craig Posted using ShareThis This forms part of my answer to my impending blog post on reason and faith. Akan datang.
It is only a tiny rosebud, A flower of God's design; But I cannot unfold the petals With these clumsy hands of mine. The secret of unfolding flowers Is not known to such as I. GOD opens this flower so easily, But in my hands they die. If I cannot unfold a rosebud, This flower of God's design, Then how can I have the wisdom To unfold this life of mine? So I'll trust in God for leading Each moment of my day. I will look to God for guidance In each step of the way. The path that lies before me, Only my Lord knows. I'll trust God to unfold the moments, Just as He unfolds the rose.

If you want

I am making it easy for people for Christmas and my birthday, if you really want to bless me. Look to your right and see the list of wishes (mostly books). Yeah, buy those.

Creed - by Steve Turner

We believe in Marxfreudanddarwin We believe everything is OK as long as you don't hurt anyone to the best of your definition of hurt, and to the best of your knowledge. We believe in sex before, during, and after marriage. We believe in the therapy of sin. We believe that adultery is fun. We believe that sodomy’s OK. We believe that taboos are taboo. We believe that everything's getting better despite evidence to the contrary. The evidence must be investigated And you can prove anything with evidence. We believe there's something in horoscopes UFO's and bent spoons. Jesus was a good man just like Buddha, Mohammed, and ourselves. He was a good moral teacher though we think His good morals were bad. We believe that all religions are basically the same- at least the one that we read was. They all believe in love and goodness. They only differ on matters of creation, sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation. We believe that a

Refuge

I have to say that while I may not be agreeable with some of the messages that I have heard from pastors from CHC, they have an extremely anointed creative team who can write beautiful lyrics and songs to worship God. I'm quite sure that a lot of people have been ministered by their songs. This one is one of my favourite among them all. Verse I sing a love song to You Lord Every day, every night Tell of Your goodness and mercy Tell the world how You rescued me Picked me up from sin and shame Your breath gives me new life Pre chorus Where can I go from Your presence Under Your wings I take refuge Your Spirit lives within my heart I know, we’ll never be apart Chorus Every day I draw closer to You Lord I long to see Your face And hide in Your embrace All my life, dwelling in Your holy place My heart O Lord You’ve changed I’ll never be the same
What language shall I borrow To thank Thee, dearest Friend, For this, Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end? Oh, make me thine forever! And should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never, Outlive my love for Thee.

A poem by a 19 years old American soldier during the Vietnam War

Look God: I have never spoken to You, But now I want to say, "How do You do." You see God, they told me You did not exist; And, like a fool, I believed all of this. Last night from a shell hole I saw Your sky; I figured right then they had told me a lie. Had I taken the time to see the things You made, I would know they weren't calling a spade a spade. I wonder, God, if You would shake my hand; Somehow, I feel that You will understand. Strange, I had to come to this hellish place Before I had time to see Your face. Well, I guess there isn't much more to say, But I am sure glad, God, I met You today. I guess the zero hour will soon be here, But I am not afraid since I know You are near. The signal - well, God, I will have to go; I love you lots, this I want you to know. Looks like this will be a horrible fight; Who knows, I may come to your house tonight. Though I wasn't friendly with you before, I wonder, God, if you would wait at th

David Livingstone - the life of a real Christian missionary

(as narrated and paraphrased by Ravi Zacharias) David Livingstone was born in Blantyre, Scotland in 1813. He was born into a home where his father used to put him on his knees and read to him stories of great missionary exploits, particularly that of Karl Gützlaff, the Dutch missionary who doubled up as a medical missionary too. Young David used to look into his father’s eyes and say, “You know, daddy, one day I’ll be a man like that. I want to be a missionary. I want to be a doctor. I want to serve God.” David Livingstone got to his knees one day and said this prayer, “Lord, Send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. Sever any ties, but the ties that bind me to your service and to your heart,” and the words of God came to him “Lo, I am with you always, even to the very end of the age.” He packed his bags and went off to Africa. And when he took one glimpse of Africa from a distance, he penned in his journal these words: “The haunting specter of th

The Lost Chord

Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease, And my fingers wandered idly Over the noisy keys; I know not what I was playing, Or what I was dreaming then, But I struck one chord of music, Like the sound of a great Amen, Like the sound of a great Amen. It flooded the crimson twilight, Like the close of an angel’s psalm, And it lay on my fevered spirit, With a touch of infinite calm, It quieted pain and sorrow, Like love overcoming strife, It seemed the harmonious echo From our discordant life, It linked all the perplexed meanings Into one perfect peace, And trembled away into silence, As if it were loth to cease; I have sought but I seek it vainly, That one lost chord divine, Which came from the soul of the organ, And entered into mine. It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be that only in Heav’n I shall hear that great Amen. It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be th
There was an old minister who, on his deathbed, asked to see the local MP and a prestigious lawyer who were both members of his congregation. They were puzzled, because they both knew the minister didn’t like them, but, out of courtesy, they came, and sat on either side of the bed. The dying minister, however, said not a word. Getting very uncomfortable, the MP and the lawyer finally asked him, “Why have you asked to see us?” “Well,” replied the minister, “I thought it would be a good idea to die as our Saviour did – between two thieves.”

Continual contradiction by Jesus Christ

"Jesus Christ continually contradicts us and the way we experience ourselves as alive and he compels us to radically redefine what we mean by life. He encounters us the way he encounters the disciples on Easter Sunday on the road to Emmaus. They the ones marked out for death, those who have survived him were really the dead. He the dead one was really the living."

Reasonable Faith: Question 83 - Double Doctorates

For some of my readers' info, over the past few weeks, God has spoken to me about furthering my studies in Christian theology and philosophy/apologetics. Reading William Lane Craig's testimony surely encourages me a lot and build a lot of faith in me as I contemplate how on earth am I going to muster the resource to go Biola to pursue my MACA. The Hound of Heaven - Francis Thompson

I fled Him, down the nights and down the days; I fled Him, down the arches of the years; I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears I hid from Him, and under running laughter. Up vistaed hopes I sped; And shot, precipitated, Adown Titanic glooms of chasmèd fears, From those strong Feet that followed, followed after. But with unhurrying chase, And unperturbéd pace, Deliberate speed, majestic instancy, They beat—and a Voice beat More instant than the Feet— “All things betray thee, who betrayest Me.” I pleaded, outlaw-wise, By many a hearted casement, curtained red, Trellised with intertwining charities; (For, though I knew His love Who followèd, Yet was I sore adread Lest, having Him, I must have naught beside.) But, if one little casement parted wide, The gust of His approach would clash it to: Fear wist not to evade, as Love wist to pursue. Across the margent of the world I fled, And troubled the gold gateways of the stars,

The price of doing

Yesterday there was an outroar at Nexus after a meeting. After the meeting, a sister went to the toilet and found a peeping tom in the toilet. She screamed and some of the brothers rushed in and trapped that guy in the cubicle. It was lucky that the sister has good habit of looking around her environment before resuming her business. After that, we handed him over to the police. It was a heart ranching moment and as I walked home last night after dinner, I felt a sense of pity for that guy. He is 22 this year, just came out from Poly and going into NS. He kept on pleading to us to let him go and said that he was sorry. It was heart ranching because if he has any plans to further his studies in Singapore or what, there is no chance now since it is almost certain that he will be convicted of the crime. Even more so, I thought about how his parents would think when they found out about the incident. Yet, it is a severe test for us as Christians. Why? Because as Christians and follower
