This is the best class in NUS for the year 2009 and perhaps in its entire history. Historians certainly make better dates =P

Toward the end II

Image
It's after Christmas and now approaching the new year. We just had a splendid Christmas service at The Rock and our first uni-YA service at KYMC. The cg saw a new convert and a few more to come, in faith, in the next coming weeks. I was looking back at my own spiritual journey for the past two years. Why two years? Because my journey as a spiritual leader physically began then. I was asked today what was my feelings when I rose up as a leader in the group. Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. This is a passage from 2 Timothy. I was thinking back and realise that all along since my conversion, I have set my heart on being an overseer. Perhaps that was normal with my own upbringing and my own experience in my studies and such. But my experience with my first cg (the previous NUSA3) had convicted me that I want to rise up as an overseer. I remember writing in my own private blog to God, after a particular sharing by Mun ...

Random thoughts and theories

Image
First thing first... Finally a full cg photo. I have been thinking a fair bit on certain aspects of a Christian life. The stuff that I will be discussing might offend people but I hope that it will provoke and shake our thoughts and allow these strains of consciousness to challenge our comfort zone. 1. The theory of sensitivity Imagine this scenario. A friend is undergoing some tough time in his studies, and probably in some of his relationships with people as well. You come along, and start talking about the recent assignment you have gotten back which scored an A and the fun time you had last night in a class outing. Your friend listened, was a bit affected, but chose not to say anything and just listen. Another bugger, who knows what is going on, come along and rebuked you for the lack of sensitivity to your friend. I tell you, I will get pissed off. I asked myself, why would I get pissed off? Is it because of the age old claim that if you get angry, you are confronting yourself or ...

A retreat at Redang

Image
The highlight of October is certainly not the 2 essays that will be due this coming 21 Oct but it was certainly an interesting experience with Hope Ipoh and Petaling Jaya at Redang over the weekend. Before I proceed further, below is some sceneries of Redang island: Yes, I included a squirrel as part of the scenery cos it is as such. It was part and parcel of the daily view at the cookhouse... Anyway, the group of us from Hope Singapore went to this retreat with the people from Hope Ipoh and Hope PJ. It was quite an exciting trip for me as it's the first time I'm attending a retreat with Hope people from different Hope churches. Not that I have not interacted with other Hope churches. Indeed, I do have friends in Hope HK also, but this is the first time I spent quite some intimate time with the brothers and sisters from the sister churches in a prolonged period of time staying together. Below are some footages of the trip itself: We arrived at Kuala Trengganu at about 6am on Sa...

Manga Messiah

Image
Just recently bought a manga by the name of Managa Messiah. It's actually a compilation of the 4 gospels into one manga. Quite fun to read.

My new manga bible

Image
I went to Believer's Music on sat and I saw something that I like a lot. Seldom do I buy things on such impulse. And here you are. Manga Bible, NLT version. The manga only summarises the main stories of the bible and the main text is translated in NLT. Quite cool, if you ask me. But this bible brought a new light regarding the bible to me. That the bible tells the story of Jesus right from the beginning. And the publisher chose manga as a way to tell this story. Cool.

ACTSCalibre

Image
I should have blogged this earlier... but weeks of busyness and stuff delayed this post. In fact I have not been posting for quite some time due to what I am about to blog now. To give the context, here's when it all started: It all started one normal evening at Raffles City Burger King, when the four of us came together to decide what kind of matric orientation will we plan this time round. And I ended up with this: Now let me reveal the wonderful journey of ACTSCalibre for you, from the viewpoint of an OG member from the INDIA og of ACTSCalibre and not from the viewpoint of the Operations Head of ACTSCalibre. Well, this og officially met up on one particular sunday, of which the date isn't exactly important at this point, at Cenotaph, the World War I memorial. To sidetrack a bit, I am deeply amused by the memorial but that's for another time. And so the og met up for the first time here: And there you have. India og. The ACTSCalibre is an orientation programme organised i...
