Just finished a hectic week of tests and papers. To make the long story short, had 3 papers - 2 take home tests and 1 project report to complete by Friday. Man, it's no joke. It's not a matter of 'I should have finished it long ago'. The take home tests came one last wed and one on tues, the report can only be done after mon's movie screening. It was really no joke.

I just wanna thank God for giving the ideas to complete these 3 papers. It's really no no no joke to do all these. As the saying goes, I have done what is humanly possible and left the impossible to God. I really dun believe that it's entirely my own effort. It's an effort with God. Apparently, He has shown His grace once more. Well... what to say, didn't the Bible already tell us that Jesus is the good shepherd?


Wednesday saw the first MACHO gathering of the semester. The topic of the gathering proves to be very relevant to most of the brothers... in fact all of the brothers. It was about courtship and dating. It makes me think of noslein. In case you all dun know, noslein is someone I know who is currently having a crush on one of his friends, bought a necklace with a heart and planning to propose to her (dunno for what) on Friday. Perhaps the one thing I was thinking about is why do we, as guys, wanna propose to another girl to go 'steady' with us? But a few things to clarify... one thing actually, that is it is normal for guys to be interested in another girl. I think we have to ask ourselves, why are we attracted to the girl, or what the girl has that really attracts us. Maybe sometimes it's cos the first impression, maybe sometimes it's cos of the long time together that feelings begin to emerge, maybe sometimes we are just horny. A lot of things to think about, but certainly, when we are so-called 'in love', we start to think with our little head, we dun start contemplating whether the girl is someone we know we can spend the rest of the life with. Of course, at the start of every relationship, the couple is forever optimistic that it will turn out fine, and it will last. But hello... on what basis?

Thank God for MACHO.

In any case, I joined the History Society Special Project Committee a few hours ago, under the counsel of Benaiah and QP. Decided that maybe it's the breakthrough move I needed to make more new friends outside of the HQ circle. I was quite surprised that Shuyi also decided to join in as well. Well, since that the presence of Eric worked. Looking forward to work with him soon.

Of Teaching and Learning

Over the past two weeks, I was invited to attend a block class on "Learning to Teach." After two weeks of class, here are some reflections that I have. We thank God Bro Casey is a pretty humane teacher... :P  Firstly, teaching needs to meet the changing challenges of the 21st century. This is especially pertinent with all the advancements in technology as well as the worldview changes with the generation today. There is simply no room for the teacher to remain stagnant and not be able to keep up with times so as to engage their students and to facilitate learning. Applying to theological education and Bible school, we have to consider what kind of ministers we are training for the churches in the 21st century. If we are training ministers who are able to engage today’s generation, then we need to review the current methods of teaching and train ministers to be savvy in social media and technology and be able to make use of them in their ministries. Iakobou Epistode: From Confusion to Clarity

Recently I was taking another course on the book of James. Similar to Romans, this is also a book that I have co-taught in church and studied in Eagles Rendezvous. Revisiting this book again yielded three reflection points. 1. The disciple's identification  The epistle by James is an interesting book within the New Testament to study. In my own NT study, I have also been fascinated by how economical the NT authors when it comes to their words - that they do not waste words in their letters. This manifests itself right from the beginning when the NT authors introduce themselves. Many of us will sometimes skip over the introduction, but we can learn a lot about the epistle itself as well as its application to our Christian life through the introduction. In James, for example, James introduced himself as a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ (James 1:1).
