How great is our God

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will sing
How great, how great, is our God.

Worship. What does it mean to worship as a Christ believer? Recently I heard that people have questions about certain forms of worship (eg, jumping blah blah blah). I look at how people worship. Buddhists in Singapore tend to go temples and chant scriptures, Chinese syncretists tend to go temples and offer joss sticks, some hindus would observe thaipusam and observe the ceremonies. These people worship their gods in their different ways, observing certain rites. How about Christians?

Surprisingly, the one verse in the Bible that talks about worship explicitly is in Roman 12:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

This is the meaning of worship, and should be the meaning of worship for the ordinary and extraordinary and the underordinary Christians. Does our forms define our worship or our worship defines our forms? There are certain feedbacks that I have heard and seen about worship. But does our worship only limit to the praise and worship sessions of each service and each cg and each prayer meeting? The bible has stated clearly that our worship is not limited to praise and worship sessions, and singing praise and worship songs. It's not about the forms, but it's about the heart condition and glorifying God. That is the act of worship.

And our worship of God will define the forms that we praise and worship God. Our relationship with God will determine the forms that we take during PnW sessions, and in our daily lives. You want to jump and clap during PnW because you want to do it for God. You dun because you wanna do it for God. You rise your hand because you surrender your lives to God. You are able to do all these because your daily lives have already worshiped Him, by glorifying Him in our daily lives. In the most mundane of things.

That is why we sing how great is our God. Our daily lives determines how we size up our God. How great is our God. Do you size down God in your daily lives and only size Him up during PnW?
