Joshua 12:7-24
These are the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir (their lands Joshua gave as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their tribal divisions- the hill country, the western foothills, the Arabah, the mountain slopes, the desert and the Negev—the lands of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites):
the king of Jericho one
the king of Ai (near Bethel) one
the king of Jerusalem one
the king of Hebron one
the king of Jarmuth one
the king of Lachish one
the king of Eglon one
the king of Gezer one
the king of Debir one
the king of Geder one
the king of Hormah one
the king of Arad one
the king of Libnah one
the king of Adullam one
the king of Makkedah one
the king of Bethel one
the king of Tappuah one
the king of Hepher one
the king of Aphek one
the king of Lasharon one
the king of Madon one
the king of Hazor one
the king of Shimron Meron one
the king of Acshaph one
the king of Taanach one
the king of Megiddo one
the king of Kedesh one
the king of Jokneam in Carmel one
the king of Dor (in Naphoth Dor) one
the king of Goyim in Gilgal one
the king of Tirzah one
thirty-one kings in all.
31 kings altogether. That was an impressive record compared to Moses. But Moses was continued to be called the servant of God. That did not mean that Joshua was no less a servant than Moses. Nonetheless, it seems that it will take a certain enablement for Joshua to accomplish a feat that was 15 times more than that of Moses. Probably, Joshua also had a good heart towards God. Yet, he must have had something that God was able to use in order to accomplish such a feat.
Implicitly, while God will equip the called, and not call the equipped, it does not go to mean that we dun prepare ourselves for God's work. Take for example. I have been wanting to serve in the worship ministry. But currently I am not. Yet I continue to prepare myself in my own guitaring skill and even learninig electric guitar. All this to prepare myself in the case that one day I'm called to serve in the worship ministry.
And God will always prepare His people beforehand in some sorts of experience or what. For example, Paul. As I was reflecting, I realise that God did prepare Paul in his ministry, even before he was called. He was well-versed in the Torah and the OT, which meant that he was well-equipped to make sense of the new convenant in context of the old one. He was well informed of Greek and Roman culture, which meant that he would be able to do what he says, to all things be all man. He was able to reach out to the so-called gentiles.
Yet, it does not mean that we are naturally called just because we are equipped. But yet as we prepare ourselves conscientiously, God will one day utilise these skills in His own ways, in His own big ways.
