The price of doing

Yesterday there was an outroar at Nexus after a meeting. After the meeting, a sister went to the toilet and found a peeping tom in the toilet. She screamed and some of the brothers rushed in and trapped that guy in the cubicle. It was lucky that the sister has good habit of looking around her environment before resuming her business. After that, we handed him over to the police.

It was a heart ranching moment and as I walked home last night after dinner, I felt a sense of pity for that guy. He is 22 this year, just came out from Poly and going into NS. He kept on pleading to us to let him go and said that he was sorry. It was heart ranching because if he has any plans to further his studies in Singapore or what, there is no chance now since it is almost certain that he will be convicted of the crime. Even more so, I thought about how his parents would think when they found out about the incident.

Yet, it is a severe test for us as Christians. Why? Because as Christians and followers of Christ, we are expected to show grace and mercy to people. But how about this case? It was not a pleasant experience sending this guy to the police, after seeing all his pleading and tears, but what he has done, he has to pay. Furthermore, we dun know what he will do if we just let him go like that. This is a world that there is no free lunch in the world. Even our forgiveness from God comes with a price.

It is our only hope that he will really realise his mistake, that he will receive a lighter sentence and turn over a new leaf after this episode.

  1. Grace isn't based on reason. That is why it is amazing, whether we received it from God or from man.

It must have been a terrible dilemma.
