The Penguins: Busking in the limelight

Mattew 6:28-30 - "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith

Sometimes, we go through stuff and we know that God is working throughout the way.

Sometime in February, during the unit reunion dinner after the Friday service, we were discussing how to raise the money for CBF as a unit. Earlier the week, we were discussing this over email and WQ smartly suggested busking... and I (being funny) supported the idea... and 老板娘took our suggestion seriously. And in the end, but me and WQ were put in charge of leading the busking team.

The preparation was tough. We had to decide who we wanted to be in the team. Secondly, we had to choose the songs we want to sing. Thirdly, we need to know how to apply for a busking license. Fourthly, for people like me, I have to be sure that I won't get into trouble.

We didn't know if we can make it for the audition. There were only a few dates for audition in a year, missing one would mean waiting for three months for the other one. We could not make it for the April one, which meant that we had to settle for the July audition.

We chose three songs: 小人物的心声, Home by Michael Buble, and Fly me to the moon. Then we changed from Home to When you say nothing at all and from Fly me to the moon to Everything in its time by Corrine May. And we had to find time to practise, and the vocalists will have to memorise their lyrics.

But those were the least of my worries. I was more concerned about the availability of the people during audition day and the logistics. For the weeks leading up to the July audition, the chances of us eventually making it seemed bleak. Jan and WQ were still in their probation and therefore little chance of taking leaves. We couldn't get the amps that we need for the performance. People were finding it difficult to memorise the lyrics...

God provides. He reallly cleared the way for us and made it happened. First, WQ and Jan managed to get their leaves (despite being in probation). And we managed to settle the amps, thanks to Davis guitar. I was shocked by how things came into place. And I felt that God was really bringing us through all these. We got the correct amps, correct cables, correct everything.

We have had our audition. We went for broke. And we will wait for the result.

We are The Penguins...
